New Adventures 2015

So, let's say...after 8 years, you finally *finally* remodel your kitchen and get it just the way you want it. What next?
You sell your house of course.

That's right - we're moving! Jim took that job in Manhattan that we said we'd never take. I'm telling you - NEVER say never. The kids and I plan to stay here through the end of school while Jim commutes back and forth every couple weeks to Manhattan starting sometime in February. Its a huge promotion for Jim and just exactly where he needs to be in his career. I'm excited about starting a new adventure. The kids waver between panic, anger, sadness and excitement.

We've done the west coast and the middle of the country; now we're conquering the east coast. Watch out Jeff - here we come!

North America day

The kids' school is having a cultural week, ending in a cultural fair with different food, music, customs etc from the kids at the school. Laura has often complained that she didn't have any culture to share. It's hard to explain that we have tons of culture and history, it's just that everyone already knows about our holidays, traditions and foods. This year, each day celebrates a different continent, starting with North America. I'm so glad Laura agreed to be a pioneer girl! My mom made me this dress when I was a girl and it fits her perfectly. I think she at least resembles Laura Ingalls Wilder, don't you think? It's good for her to be proud of her ancestors and culture.

Tournament!

Laura went to a karate tournament a few months ago. She won first place in Basics. That means she is alone up there in front of 3 judges and they tell her to do something like "punch" or "kick" and she does it. They judge her on execution and intensity.  Check out the first place trophies...
It is big.
Ridiculously big.
Like, almost didn't fit in the car, big.
BIG

Check out the scores the judges are holding up!

Cold Day Chronicles #3

Next in our day...

I took a nap.

I don't know what the kids did.

Also, there was a game of Battleship in a tent

Pokemon coloring pages

And improvements to my boot rack

And when I told them to go away because they were driving me crazy, they started making videos. Here's an example:

Now they are watching TV

Cold Day Chronicles #2

Halfway through the day. We have...

Made ice art

Played Scrabble

Learned to sew

Built train tracks around the drawers

Played basketball

And made bread.

Time for Quiet Time???

Cold Day Chronicles #1

School was cancelled today for cold (windchill -35). This is our first one this year. Last year, we missed 4-5 days just for cold. Its not quite the same as a "snow day" because you can't go out and play in the snow. So far, our fun has involved dressing the dog for the weather :)
