Duluth

When the opportunity arises, you better just take it right? Well we had another vacation opportunity last weekend and we took it. This one was very short and sweet. I won some tickets to the Duluth Aquarium and Jim had just seen a good deal for a waterpark/hotel if you stay on a Sunday night in Duluth. We went up on Sunday morning and were home on Monday for Laura's school. It was great!

Karate!

After much soul searching and checking out all possible locations, we decided to give karate a try for a few months. The whole thing started on a whim when I thought it would be good for Adam. Turns out he's just too young, but Laura's interest was sparked. She's been going to classes for 2 weeks and earned her white belt tonight. She was surprised and beyond excited. Its cool to see how much fun she is having and I can see her coordination improving already.

Maple syrup (from March)

We tapped our sugar maple tree in March. It went so well, I'll plan to do it every year. We got about 12 gallons over a week or so and boiled it down in stages to the jar below, plus another jelly jar full. I kept boiling it down, expecting a dark color. But it ended up thick like honey (and a similar color). Still delicious, but not the same stuff you buy in the store or farmer's market. My only problem now is that much of it crystallized. I'm still using the syrup and crystals in my oatmeal, so it is being enjoyed immensely.

Adam's new bike

Grandma and Papa showed up with a surprise bike for Adam a few weeks ago. He had every intention of riding Laura's pink bike when we got around to getting some training wheels back on it, but the blue was just so exciting that we had to get training wheels right away. He loves it!
